BeLDi, the Belug (Linux) Distribution Burner, is a program
designed to burn Distributions (they are generally large amount of data, thus
often burned on CD or DVD). BeLDi consist of a simple graphic user interface
where the main screen shows the available distributions in a list.
When the user selects one, a dialog will ask which version
and for which architecture, the distribution has to be burned.
Once the architecture and version are selected the burn procedure starts. You can
watch the progress on the progression bar.
All user operations can be completed with the mouse or a touchscreen.
A console version for the client is also planed.
BeLDi is designed to require the less administration as possible.
Making it possible to install and keep it in service in any Linux User
Group without wasting your time. It downloads at regular intervals the
updated distribution definition files from the belug.org/~beldi website.
These files are in XML format and contain the most notably description texts,
images, url, and related md5 checksums. Once the program has the definition
files it starts downloading the images in the background. As soon as the
images are complete and valid ( checked against md5sum ) they are available
to burn for the users.
BeLDi can be installed and configured on a dedicated computer in order to
transform it as a self-service distribution burner station. With this option
the BeLDi interface will start automatically (in full screen mode) at boot
up.

The Berlin Linux User Group (BeLUG) was founded in 1995, one of the oldest LUG's in Germany, formed by some linux events from the Humbolt University. In the beginnig the only members where students, they worked on different projects, e.g. the book "linux kernel programming".
Since 2002 we are a registered association, and our responsibility changed. Today we are a linux user group with newbies, users, programers and admins, so if you like, you can easly find your place as a member of BeLUG. Everbody who is interested in linux, or open source software, or simply needs help on linux is welcome to visit us, or join our projects.
We had the idea for the burning station as a part of a typical BeLUG project, so we did the concept, progamming and the documentation.
